Yellow Bird Notebook

This custom composition notebook is perfect as a back to school gift! I made this with beautiful scrapbook paper and washi tape, and it includes three pastel colored #2 pencils to complete the set. 

This can either be used as a school notebook, or even as a journal, diary or notepad for writing letters. Either way, the eye catching design is sure to impress! 

This was made with a standard Composition Notebook. College Rule, 100 Sheets, 9.75 in x 7.5 in. (24.7 cm x 19.0 cm)

The front cover features a cute yellow bird against a pink pattern background. 

The back cover is also pink with a similar matching design. 

The notebook binding was done with floral washi tape.

The interior front and back covers were left as is and have standard composition notebook areas for class schedule, conversion tables for math and measurement, etc. 

The pages are standard wide-ruled sheets.

Brighten up your room with these sweet birdies

These three simple but cute paper birds will look adorable on a bookshelf, fireplace mantle or dresser. They would be great for a kids room or nursery! 

Each bird stands approximately 3" to 4" tall by approximately 2" to 5" inches long, depending on the bird. The body and wings are made with scrapbook paper and glue. I distressed the edges with black pigment ink to give them contrast and interest. The feet are made with paper clips that were painted with acrylic paint. The feet also have a crackled, distressed look to them. 

These paper birds are freestanding, so they give a great 3D effect when placed on a shelf or dresser! 

(Please note, the candles shown in the picture do not come with the birds, they were just used for staging purposes in the photos as a demonstration of how the birds would look arranged with other home accents.)

Butterfly Bling! All sorts of uses!

These beautiful paper butterflies would be perfect for so many things! 

*Use them as scrapbooking embellishments or hand made cards.
*Glue them to a barrette for a pretty hair accessory. 
*Attach them to lollypop sticks or toothpicks and use as cupcake toppers. 
*Use double stick tape or adhesive and decorate dresser mirror or bling up your lampshades. 
*Glue them to a strip of cardstock or a large paperclip and use as a bookmark. 
*Stick a bit of wall putty to the backs of them and use them as colorful wall decor. 
*Glue one to the end of your favorite pen or pencil.
*Use them to decorate the corners of your computer monitor.

The possibilities are only limited by your imagination!

Each of these lovely paper butterflies were hand painted with metallic shimmer watercolors to give them that shimmery, iridescent look that butterflies are known for. I used sticky gems to bling up the body of the butterflies as well as the wings. The wings have a slight curl to them which gives them a 3D effect, so they aren't just flat. You can also carefully fold the wings upwards a bit to give them even more dimension. 

This set of 5 butterflies come in three colors: 3 blue with peach swirls, 1 medium pink with dark pink swirls and 1 peach with orange swirls. The beautiful swirly colors remind me of melting ice cream or sherbet and are so pretty! 

Each of these paper butterflies is approximately 1.75 inches wide (from wingtip to wingtip) by 1.5 inches long (tip of the antennae to bottom of the wings.) I included a picture next to a nickle for scale.

Huge Michael's Haul!

So, I think I got a bit carried away!

I've been making a shopping list of things I want from Michael's, because I have so many fun ideas of things I want to make. I even tried to trim the list down a bit. Unfortunately, once I got there, well..

The total at the end was a bit scary! But, I think it'll be worth it. Already, I've started making a few things that I'm so happy with! I'll post another update tomorrow and show off one of the goodies I've made.

An introduction

My love for art is not something that I grew up with, but rather was developed more recently. But my passion is there - though it's still very new. I have a long way to go as I learn and understand. Many days, I may spend several hours experimenting with watercolors and acrylics, modge podge and scrapbook paper. Stencils, ink sprays, modeling paste, every brush imaginable until I'm using my fingers and hands to spread the paint. And sometimes, all that's left in my wake is what some might see as nothing but a big mess. 

But to me, it's all about the joy of learning.
